Over 33 Years of Work Experience in Power and Energy Sector
Bharat NK Saxena is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering and holds Master’s degrees in Turbo Machines (REC-Surat) and Business Administration with a specialization in Operations Management. He has over 33 years of rich experience in the Power & Gas sector. He is currently working with Jindal Renewable Power Private Limited as President – Renewable Energy, based in Delhi. His previous role was with M/s Think Gas, based in Noida, which is part of the India platform of the US-based equity fund, M/s I Squared Capital, focused on energy and gas. He served as President, overseeing Power and City Gas Distribution (CNG & PNG) operations, as well as special projects such as generating an EV ecosystem in GA locations and developing India’s first Green Energy Project, including biogas with CCUS, organic manure, and hydrogen/ammonia. He was responsible for all seven GAs, currently under execution and operation.
With over 33 years of experience in the power and gas sector, I am a passionate and driven leader dedicated to delivering excellence and innovation in business operations. As the Head of Business (President and Director - Renewables) and a founding member of Jindal Renewable, I oversee strategic planning, business plan execution, EPC, and the optimization of various projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing the company's performance, sustainability, and social impact.
Jindal Renewable has a plan to develop 12.5 GW of renewable energy (RE) projects to decarbonize JSP. The first 3 GW, comprising a wind and solar hybrid, is currently in the project development stage, with execution already underway. I built the team from scratch, and we now have a high-quality team in place, with all projects progressing well.
Additionally, we are in the process of preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for three Pumped Storage Plants (PSPs) totaling around 2.5 GW. We are also working in parallel to identify the best storage technologies, including TES, CP2, CES, batteries, PSPs, and more.
He worked at Essar Power for 5 years, executing a 500 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant; at GACL for 5 years, executing a dual-fuel gas-based power plant; and with PSEG, followed by GMR Energy for 8 years, where he executed the largest 220 MW barge-mounted power plant on dual fuel. He played a key role in finalizing the O&M contract and Fuel Supply Contract and was a key player in conducting due diligence for the acquisition of Intergen plants by M/s GMR. Additionally, he spent 2.5 years with BHEL-GE as Country Head of Service, responsible for maintaining gas turbines of various capacities across four countries—India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Bangladesh—while also supporting GE in other countries such as South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.
In his most recent role, he worked for 10 years with the LANCO Group as Executive Director (Operations), SR, and COO, Bangladesh. The group oversaw four gas-based power plants with a total capacity of 1,476 MW at a single location, along with projects including a 120 MW gas-based plant in Tanjore, a 600 MW thermal plant in Ennore, a 1,200 MW thermal plant in Udupi, and a 600 MW plant in Bangladesh.
I bring a strong background in key account management, project planning, and process engineering, along with a deep understanding of industry trends, challenges, and opportunities. I leverage my skills and knowledge to foster long-term relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders, while identifying and implementing solutions that meet their needs and expectations. Additionally, I empower and mentor my team to achieve their goals and realize their potential. My mission is to contribute to the advancement and transformation of the renewable energy sector, creating value for society and the environment.
Responsible for project management and plant operations, including handling all contracts such as O&M, long-term service, and supply agreements with GE, as well as gas supply and transportation, PPAs, and power evacuation. Worked with PNRGB, CEA, MOP, and MOPNG, contributing to significant reforms in the power and gas sectors.
